Airport Parking Revenue Increases (at Pittsburgh International Airport); More Users, Higher Rates Credited

November 13, 2010 - Tom Fontaine/Pittsburgh Tribune Review - Pittsburgh International Airport's parking revenue is taking off, thanks to increased passenger traffic, recent rate increases and the expansion of long-term lots near the landside terminal.

Green Lot Reopened at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW)

November 9, 2010 - Jaclyn Trop / The Detroit News - Travelers can now park at Detroit Metro Airport for as little as $8 a day, just in time for the busy holiday season. The airport's Green Lot, which closed in November 2008 amid a soft market for air travel, reopened Monday as the cheapest (on-airport)airport parking option.

The 1,400-space surface lot serves the North and McNamara terminals through airport shuttle service. Prices at the Green Lot, $10 daily before the lot was shuttered, could rise depending on demand, said Wayne County Airport Authority spokesman Scott Wintner.

This marks the second price drop for airport parking in six months. In June, the airport cut prices at the Big Blue Deck and the surface Yellow Lot to $10 from $16 and $11, respectively. Read the full article at Detroit News.

Tinicum Residents Battle Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Expansion in Order to Keep Their Homes (With Video)

November 7, 2010 - Daily Times - By PAUL LUCE - In August, the Federal Aviation Administration released its final environmental impact statement regarding plans to enhance capacity and runways at Philadelphia International Airport, located largely in Tinicum. According to airport officials, the capacity enhancement plan would ultimately shave 14.1 minutes off the average delay per operation by 2025.

Estimated to cost $5.35 billion, the plan would require the acquisition of 72 housing units in Tinicum that are east of Fourth Avenue, between Seminole and Iroquois streets. The plan would displace about 80 businesses, affecting an estimated 3,515 employees. It would also result in significant noise impacts to 330 housing units, which would warrant mitigation measures. Hands-On Airport Searches National Rollout of Invasive Pat-Downs This Week

October 26, 2010 - Boston Herald - Airline passengers nationwide will be subjected to new aggressive and controversial body searches likened to “foreplay” pat-downs under the expansion of a program tested at Logan International Airport.

Beginning Friday, the Transportation Security Administration will start using the new front-of-the-hand, slide-down screening technique for passengers at all 450 of the nation’s commercial airports.

The more invasive pat-downs - which include over-the-clothes searches of passengers’ breast and genital areas - have raised privacy issues among civil liberties advocates. TSA screeners previously used pat-down hand motions to search passengers, switching to the backs of their hands when covering sensitive areas such as the torso. Read More.

Search Airport Parking Launches Web Site to Help Travelers

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Nov. 1, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE) -- Search Airport Parking announced this week that SearchAirportParking.com was launched in September 2010 as a resource for travelers and airport parking operators.  The site includes a directory of the top airports in the United States and Canada with on-airport parking, off-airport parking, transportation and other information for each airport.

The airport directory currently includes 18 airports and information on over 100 airport parking facilities.  Airports and parking locations are added weekly with Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Boston Logan (BOS) as the latest additions.  Customers can even recommend an airport or parking facility to Search Airport Parking for addition to the directory.

Search Airport Parking’s philosophy is that travelers tend to do a lot of research on their destinations, but are not prepared for their departure airport. SearchAirportParking.com includes information on airport transportation, terminals, directions, on-airport parking, and off-airport parking all in one place so the traveler can be just as prepared for arriving at their departure airport as they are when they get to their destination.

Search Airport Parking also offers services to the airport parking professional.  For parking operators, Search Airport Parking can setup Featured Listings, which are customized pages with their specific parking information that are linked to the airport directory.  Reservation forms can also be setup so parking operators can get customer reservations in their email inbox.

About Search Airport Parking

In 2010, SearchAirportParking.com was founded to provide a resource for travelers and parking operators.  The site includes an airport directory that pulls together information on airport transportation, terminals, directions, on-airport parking, and off-airport parking into one place so travelers are just as prepared when they get to the departure airport as they are when they arrive at their destination.  Search Airport Parking offers advertising, reservations, and sponsor listing options to parking operators.
