Airport Parking Revenue Increases (at Pittsburgh International Airport); More Users, Higher Rates Credited
Rate increases that took effect in June have played a role in increasing revenues. All-day rates went from $21 to $24 in short-term lots and from $11 to $12 in long-term lots.
But the biggest factor, said authority Executive Director Brad Penrod, is the increasing number of passengers. He said long-term lots have sold out 82 times this year, versus 21 times last year.
Officials reported Friday that Pittsburgh's passenger traffic was up 5.9 percent in September compared to September 2009, the sixth straight year-over-year gain. The only longer period of growth in the 2000s was a 17-month stretch ending the month of the 9/11 attacks. That ushered in a bleak period lasting until April, when year-over-year traffic improved just nine times. Read More.

Green Lot Reopened at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW)
The 1,400-space surface lot serves the North and McNamara terminals through airport shuttle service. Prices at the Green Lot, $10 daily before the lot was shuttered, could rise depending on demand, said Wayne County Airport Authority spokesman Scott Wintner.
This marks the second price drop for airport parking in six months. In June, the airport cut prices at the Big Blue Deck and the surface Yellow Lot to $10 from $16 and $11, respectively. Read the full article at Detroit News.

Hands-On Airport Searches National Rollout of Invasive Pat-Downs This Week
Beginning Friday, the Transportation Security Administration will start using the new front-of-the-hand, slide-down screening technique for passengers at all 450 of the nation’s commercial airports.
The more invasive pat-downs - which include over-the-clothes searches of passengers’ breast and genital areas - have raised privacy issues among civil liberties advocates. TSA screeners previously used pat-down hand motions to search passengers, switching to the backs of their hands when covering sensitive areas such as the torso. Read More.

Search Airport Parking Launches Web Site to Help Travelers
The airport directory currently includes 18 airports and information on over 100 airport parking facilities. Airports and parking locations are added weekly with Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Boston Logan (BOS) as the latest additions. Customers can even recommend an airport or parking facility to Search Airport Parking for addition to the directory.
Search Airport Parking’s philosophy is that travelers tend to do a lot of research on their destinations, but are not prepared for their departure airport. SearchAirportParking.com includes information on airport transportation, terminals, directions, on-airport parking, and off-airport parking all in one place so the traveler can be just as prepared for arriving at their departure airport as they are when they get to their destination.
Search Airport Parking also offers services to the airport parking professional. For parking operators, Search Airport Parking can setup Featured Listings, which are customized pages with their specific parking information that are linked to the airport directory. Reservation forms can also be setup so parking operators can get customer reservations in their email inbox.
