New Rates will Encourage use of all Parking Facilities /JAA Board Approves New Name for Craig Airport

JACKSONVILLE, January 24, 2010 – The Jacksonville Aviation Authority today approved a parking rate adjustment at Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) for the first time since June 2007.

The rate adjustments will become effective on February 1, 2011. The new rates are intended to encourage customers to utilize all parking facilities at JAX, and free up more spaces in the Hourly Garage for use by meeters and greeters.

JAA board members also approved the renaming of Craig Airport to Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport.
The rates for the Daily Surface Parking and Economy lots 1 and 2 will be lowered by $2, while the parking rate for Economy lot 3 will be lowered by $5. The Hourly Garage and Daily Garage rates will each see a $2 increase.

The incremental rates in the garages and daily surface parking lot will remain the same at $1.50 per 20 minutes, or any portion thereof.

“We want to make sure that there are convenient and affordable parking options for all of our customers at JAX,” said JAA Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, Steve Grossman. “We hope that these adjusted rates will offer a wider variety of parking options for our customers.”

Along with the new rates, the JAA will be introducing a Frequent Parker Program to JAX customers in the spring which will offer free parking with earned points. The JAA will also continue to grow its Premier Parking for business travelers due to the overwhelming response to the program.

JAX has a public parking facility capacity of approximately 8,724 parking spaces, which are comprised of two garages, one surface lot and three economy lots.

$1 Billion Expansion will Transform Lindbergh Field (San Diego International Airport)

Jan 18, 2011 - by Robert J. Hawkins - The San Diego Union Tribune -- For many travelers, the newest addition to San Diego International Airport has been about closed parking lots, rerouted roadways and the tearing down of bits and pieces of Terminal 2.

But that is going to change.

In the next few months, the $1 billion Green Build — a nod to its environmentally sensitive design — will take shape atop the site of a long-dormant municipal and military landfill. It will be a mirror image of the existing terminal, with 10 new gates and a signature common area for travelers. Construction is also poised to begin on an elevated roadway for departing passengers, with a sophisticated curbside check-in.  Read More

DIA (Denver International) Hikes Fees for Off-Airport Parking Vendors

Jan 19, 2011 - by Jeffery Lieb - The Denver Post --Denver International Airport has changed the way it charges off-airport parking operators to bring their shuttle vans to the terminal, a move that at least one company said is likely to lead to increased costs for customers.

On Dec. 10, DIA started charging off-airport lots 8 percent of their gross revenues plus an additional fee if their vans spend more than 15 minutes dropping off and picking up airline passengers at the terminal.
Taking a percentage of gross revenues replaces a separate access fee for private parking vans that DIA had charged operators.

USAirport Parking, which has 8,000 spaces at its lot on Tower Road near East 81st Avenue, paid about $200,000 to DIA last year for the company's vans to gain access to the airport's fifth-level pickup and drop-off areas, said company marketing manager Mark Walker.

Using the new formula, USAirport Parking expects its annual fee could be at least $1 million, Walker said.  Read more at The Denver Post.

Search Airport Parking Launches Park Sleep and Fly Web Site

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Jan. 3, 2011 (PRESS RELEASE) -- Search Airport Parking announced this week that SearchParkSleepFly.com was launched in December 2010 as a resource for travelers and airport hotel operators as well as a compliment to its existing SearchAirportParking.com web site. SearchParkSleepFly.com will include a directory of the top airports in the United States and Canada with airport information and information on hotels that offer Park Sleep and Fly Hotel Packages.

Park Sleep and Fly Hotel Packages are an alternative to Airport Long Term Parking. The traveler checks into a hotel near the airport the day before their flight and goes to the airport the next day on the airport hotel shuttle. When the traveler returns, they call for the hotel airport shuttle and are brought back to the hotel where they pick up their car. Park Sleep and Fly is a great option for a traveler that has an early morning flight, a distance to travel to the airport, or a concern about traffic delays on the way to the airport. Also, Park Sleep and Fly Hotel Packages are competitive with airport parking rates and the packages are often priced less than the equivalent price for parking at an on-airport parking lot.

The SearchParkSleepFly.com airport directory currently includes 6 airports and information on over 20 airport hotels that offer Park Sleep and Fly Packages. Over the next couple months airports and hotels will be added to the directory weekly. Currently the airport directory includes Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Atlanta (ATL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX) and John F Kennedy (JFK). Customers can even recommend an airport or hotel to Search Airport Parking for addition to the directory.

Search Airport Parking’s philosophy is that travelers tend to do a lot of research on their destinations, but are not prepared for their departure airport. Both SearchAirportParking.com and SearchParkSleepFly.com include information on airport transportation, terminals, directions, and airport parking all in one place so the traveler can be just as prepared for arriving at their departure airport as they are when they get to their destination.

Search Airport Parking also offers services to the airport parking and hotel professional. For hotel and parking operators, Search Airport Parking can setup Featured Listings, which are customized pages with their specific parking information that are linked to the airport directory. Reservation forms can also be setup so parking operators can get customer reservations in their email inbox.

About Search Airport Parking

In 2010, Search Airport Parking was founded to provide informative web resources for travelers and travel service operators. The two web sites managed by Search Airport Parking. SearchAirportParking.com and SearchParkSleepFly.com, include an airport directory that pulls together information on airport transportation, terminals, directions, and airport parking into one place so travelers are just as prepared when they get to the departure airport as they are when they arrive at their destination. Search Airport Parking offers advertising, reservations, and sponsor listing options to travel service operators.
